Can I choose whether I have a burial or cremation?

Yes. Whether you chose a cremation or burial, the plan guarantees to cover the funeral director services listed to arrange and conduct the funeral. For a cremation funeral, the crematorium, and minister or officiant’s fees listed in the plan schedule are guaranteed to be covered. However, a burial funeral cannot be guaranteed in the same way as a cremation funeral. The funeral director will arrange certain services, which are provided by third parties, but as the cost of these services varies widely across the country, Dignity cannot promise that your plan will cover these costs. Instead a contribution of £1,220 (rising with inflation) will be made towards burial fees and any services provided by third parties (such as minister’s or officiant’s fees).

What if I want extra services that aren’t included?

You can add personal requests to your Plan at any time, without a charge. For example, you could leave instructions on where to hold the service, what flowers to buy, what mourners should wear and even which hymns to sing. By adding these little extras to your Plan, you can give your loved ones the reassurance of knowing that everything is being done the way you want it to be. Some requests may incur an additional cost. You can choose to make an extra contribution towards these personal requests, which will rise each year in line with inflation, or the additional cost can be met by your loved ones at the time.

How can I pay for the plan ?

Dignity offers a range of flexible payment options, so you can pay in the way that works for you.

You can make a single one-off payment by cheque, Debit or Credit Card, spread the cost over 12 monthly Direct Debit payments, at no extra charge, or spread the cost over a term of up to 25 years with monthly payments by Direct Debit.

If you choose to pay for your plan over a term longer than 12 months, all payments have to be completed by the 85th birthday of the eldest person named on the plan. Plans purchased over a period greater than 12 months will incur an additional fee.

Is my money safe?

The money that you pay for your Plan is paid directly into the National Funeral Trust. If Dignity were to go out of business, the money for your funeral would still be protected because it is legally separate from Dignity.

How will my family and funeral organiser know what to do in the event of my death?

You will receive a Planholder pack, which tells you everything you need to know. This includes important information for your funeral organiser, the person who will be responsible for setting the plan in motion when the time comes. The pack also explains how you can add personal touches or request additional services if you wish.

What happens if my Funeral Director goes out of business?

No matter what happens, your funeral arrangements are protected because all the money is paid in to the totally independent National Funeral Trust, which no one at Dignity can access. In the unlikely event that Dignity goes out of business, the fund trustees would seek to appoint or create a new company to administer all the plans to ensure that all the funerals are performed and paid for. If the funeral director were to go out of business, an alternative Dignity nominated funeral director would be allocated to the plan.

What if I change my mind, can I have a refund?

You have 30 days from the date you receive your agreement to cancel the plan and receive a full refund. Cancellations after that time are subject to a £249 cancellation fee, which will be deducted from your refund.

Can I take out a plan for someone else?

Yes. Many Dignity customers take out a Prepaid Funeral Plan for their relatives or friends. As long as the recipient of the Plan is aged 50 or over, you can buy a Plan. You just need to provide the details of the person you’re applying for.

What is a Prepaid Funeral Plan from Dignity?

A Prepaid Funeral Plan from Dignity allows you to prepay and prearrange your funeral. The plan can save both money and worry as the cost of specified funeral services are fixed at today’s price. Once paid for, loved ones will not be asked to pay a penny more for the services included in the plan, no matter when the funeral takes place.
